Giuseppe Verdi’s (1813-1901) Requiem (Messa da Requiem) is one of the great masterworks performed with four soloists, chorus and orchestra. Soloists for the current performance will be Lauren Margison, soprano, Jamie Barton, alto, Limmie Pulliam, tenor, and Kenneth Kellogg, bass. The chorus, created by combining the Memphis Symphony Chorus (Joseph Powell, conductor) and the University of Mississippi Chorus (Donald Trott and Elizabeth Hearn, conductors), will join the Memphis Symphony Orchestra; all lead by Maestro Robert Moody. The work was composed in 1873/74 in memory of Alessandro Manzoni (1785-1873), a famous Italian poet and novelist. The 90 minute work uses the traditional Latin mass for the dead text presented in 7 movements.
