Benjamin Britten’s charming comic opera takes the audience on a journey to East Suffolk at the turn of the 20th century. The delightful characters romp through a May Day festival that goes awry when the shy young man they elect as May King chooses to break free of society’s rules, and his own pent-up frustration, to experience life’s pleasures.

Sung, in English, by graduate and undergraduate vocal music majors, and supported by the UM Orchestra, Albert Herring provides an evening of exciting music and bold comedy.
